Managing Safety and Health in Primary Schools – Online Course

The Health and Safety Authority have developed an online course for managing safety and health in primary schools.

The course aims to assist principals, teachers, etc. in their understanding of managing workplace safety and health in primary schools.

The course covers areas such as:
  • completing a safety statement,
  • carrying out risk assessments,
  • employer roles and responsibilities, and
  • accident / incident reporting.


  • Checklists

    Upon completion the user should be able to:
  • Identify the most common types of hazards that occur in primary schools,
  • Prevent hazards in the classroom,
  • Report accidents accurately and efficiently,
  • Recognise the roles and responsibilities of individuals in the school in relation to health and safety matters.

    IOSH Western District Event in Galway – Challenges of Emergency Management

    The IOSH Western District Committee are holding a free seminar in the Oranmore Lodge Hotel @ 7pm on Tuesday the 11th of November.

    We have all seen the damage that was done as a result of last winter’s floods and storms. Emergency Services had to get into action to save people from danger as well as to minimise and repair damage done to property and infrastructure.

    Speakers on the night:
  • Derek Hynes, ESB Networks will talk about their experiences of Storm Darwin which occurred in February 2014.
  • Shane Mooney of SPeco Services will discuss the immediate challenge of emergency management and the protection of business continuity following on from such an emergency.
  • Paul Duffy of Galway County Council Fire Service will discuss flooding hazards and the response of the fire service to such hazards.
