Tips for keeping your child safe this Christmas

Posted in Christmas, Fire | No Comments
Christmas can be an exciting and wonderful time for children. But it can also be a dangerous time of year. Taking a quick look around your home and you may see extra decorations, both small and large, Christmas lights and loads of lovely new toys. The very last thing you want is for your child or visiting children to fall ill or to be injured.

Tip for keeping your child and visiting children safe the Christmas:
  • Position your tree safely and securely and away from door ways, walk ways, open fires, stoves, radiators and heaters.

  • Keep all toy and decoration packaging in a secure place out of reach and sight of children.

  • Try to avoid decorations that are easily broken – this will reduce the risk of cuts if children come in contact with them.

  • Check that your decorations don’t contain small parts – this will reduce the risk of choking should children get their hands on them.

  • Do not hang or attach Christmas decorations or stockings on the fireplace where small children may pull them down and injure themselves or risk setting fire to the decorations.

  • Use a spark guard around fireplaces at all times.

  • Do not use Christmas light that are faulty.

  • Switch off Christmas lights when going to bed and when leaving the house.
